I’ve seen a complaint or two that Disney has really sold Star Wars out by placing it on everything imaginable. Maybe those people have lived under a rock since 1977 but Star Wars has always been everywhere. Well almost always, there was a dark period in the early 90’s where Star Wars was nowhere to be seen. Those days are long gone and whether you want to blame George Lucas or Mickey Mouse for the plethora of Star Wars goodies, go right ahead. I, for one, am pleased to see Vader or Chewie or the droids plastered everywhere. One of the product tie-ins out right now is soup. Buying soup isn’t exactly the funnest thing in the world but if you put Yoda on the can then just a tiny bit of fun can come out of your chicken noodles.
There are six new cans each featuring a different character from the Star Wars Universe. They’re all classic characters, no prequel or new movie characters. I wish they’d gone with classic images instead of the newer shots they’ve used. These are all very Episode 3-ish. While I like Revenge of the Sith (blasphemy, I know), I’d have preferred a more vintage look at least for Yoda and Chewbacca.
Campbell’s also gives us an added treat. They have three new cans of Spaghetti-O’s with Vader, Yoda, and the droids. While something about these isn’t as cool as the soup cans I still like them.
There’s not just soup out there with aliens on it right now. You can get everything from coffee creamer to Cheez-Its and Star Wars product tie-ins are nothing new. In the past we’ve seen C-3PO’s cereal, Darth Vader bubblebath, and everything else you can dream up.
We’ve looked at a few product tie-ins in the past right here on Doom Kick.
