Dino Riders Valorian Quetzalcoatlus

quetz7 One of a few winged Dino Riders, the Quetzalcoatlus was the larger of the two flying mounts the Valorians used in their battle against the ruthless Rulons. The Quetzalcoatlus also has the distinction of being one of the few creature shared between the Valorian and Rulon factions though the Rulon’s Quetzal shares the same sculpt it has a wildly different paint job making each beast look very unique. Ready for the Series 1 Valorian Quetzalcoatlus? Let’s take a look! quetz1 The Valorian Quetzal is another great and nicely detailed toy in the line. Fully decked out with two lasers on each wing as well as the mounted seat for the pilot with what looks like jet engines to propel the Quetzalcoatlus at an even faster pace. quetz2 Most dinosaurs in Dino Riders featured these great eyes. They look even better in person than they come across in pictures. I assume they are plastic made to mimic glass but they look much more realistic than the painted eyes of some of the smaller dinos. quetz4 The Valorian, Yungstar, was packaged with the Series 1 Quetzalcoatlus. He’s another decent, yet boring, figure like pretty much all the Valorians. Luckily the focus isn’t really on the figures in Dino Riders as they are more like an accessory and as an accessory Yungstar is fine. quetz5

One very cool thing about the Quetzal is the hinged jaw. It’s a very simple thing but it works and can add to a display especially if you want to pick up multiples of the Quetzalcoatlus and have them line your shelf in different poses. There’s also a swivel and hinge at the base of the head allowing the Quetzal to look around as well as up and down. quetz10quetz9 It only takes those few add-ons to turn a simple Pterosaur (some Dino Riders dinos weren’t technically dinosaurs) into a battle ready mount… quetz11 …able to take on the Rulons and their Pteranodon. Coincidentally the two beasts share the same body with only the heads and paint being different. quetz6 The Quetzalcoatlus is a great addition to the Valorians. I really enjoy all the variety between the dinos with some being runners, some being huge lumbering tanks and others being winged creatures of the sky. They had almost all the bases covered, Tyco only missed out on giving us some aquatic Dino Riders. Don’t miss out on any of the Doom Kick Dino Riders coverage.

I had the Rulon version of this dino. This was an awesome toy! I used that dinosaur for many years in my Jurassic Park collection. The eyes really incredible. I wish I would have bought and kept my Dino Riders, my Smithsonian collection dinos, and my Jurassic Park toys!

I still need to get the Rulon version. That is one of the pricier toys in Dino Riders. It’s awesome looking and has one of the coolest color schemes in the whole line.

Great review. I wish Yungstar and all the Valorians had looked more like they did in the cartoon.
