I know you’re grumbling about another 5 POA Star Wars figure from Hasbro as these do not have much movement but they work perfectly for my needs. All I want is another armor variant to add to my collection of Clones and Stormtroopers. I don’t need dynamic poses and I’m not planning on setting up a battlefield diorama as awesome as that would be. I just want to add one more to my Star Wars Hall of Armor and this little guy suits that perfectly. Ready for a closer look?
The cardback is nice but nothing spectacular. I like the individual pictures on the front of the card but I miss the old days when cardbacks were filled with information on the figure you were buying as well as a spread showing multiple other figures in the line, not just three or four figures, loads of figures. It’s pretty standard these days that cardbacks are dull and worthless. It’s disappointing that the standard is a setback from where we were a few decades ago in that regard.
I won’t waste alot of words talking about the articulation. You already know it’s the basic five points with a swivel neck and a swivel at each shoulder and each hip. It’s classic, it’s basic and it’s something alot of people hate. I myself don’t mind it, even if I was going to play with this First Order Stormtrooper. As a kid I would play with figures like Army Ants and M.U.S.C.L.E. Men with no articulation as well as GI Joe and C.O.P.S. with nice articulation and I was fine with both. I’m still fine with it as an adult.
I love the design of the new First Order Stormtroopers. It’s instantly recognizable yet feels completely updated. I would expect technology and designs to have changed in the 30 years since the second Death Star was destroyed and it has but at the same time there’s no denying this is a Stormtrooper. That’s a perfect evolution in design and I’m very pleased to add him to the shelf of my Trooper Army.
We get the new updated blaster that is recognizable but new at the same time. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the blaster clips onto his leg. I wasn’t expecting something like this in the small scale line but I like it.
This trooper also comes with a larger blaster rifle. It’s part of the Build-A-Weapon gimmick that is going now with the single carded 3.75″ figures. It’s not a bad looking toy gun but I won’t be displaying it with my Troopers.
I really like both the new Stormtrooper and the Flametrooper. I’m excited to see both in the Force Awakens and jump into the Star Wars films that will take us into the future of that galaxy I already know so well. These new designs are the perfect way to keep seasoned fans feeling right at home while at the same time keep us waiting in anticipation at what might happen next because it’s all new from here on out.
