I’ve loved Weird Al since I was a kid, specifically since Off the Deep End came out in 1992. My 12 year old mind was opened up by Weird Al’s parodies as I realized how much better these main stream songs could be if they were funny. Just recently I got to see Al live in concert and take my 8 year old son who just happens to also love Weird Al.
It was the most fun I’ve had in a very long time and I felt like I was back in middle school again as he sang songs like Smells Like Nirvana, Amish Paradise, and Gump.
Of course I got the standard concert tour t-shirt but I also picked up a pack of Weird Al Trading Cards at the concert. I never knew these existed but my love of Weird Al and old school nerdy trading cards wouldn’t let me pass up buying a pack for $3. My only regret is not buying more.
The cards are pictures and stills from various things Al has been a part of, covering everything from TV appearances to album art and concert photos. They’re the perfect Weird Al merchandise and go one step further in bringing me back to those days in the early 90’s when I could ride my bike out to pick up some trading cards like Marvel Series 1 or TMNT. There’s nothing better than reliving the past when the past was so much fun.
